What roofline lighting actually consists of
The system is an aluminum channel, matched to your trim color, carrying LEDs along the roof edge. That channel is doing two things, holding the diodes and keeping them out of sight. Matched to the trim, it looks like trim from the sidewalk.
Which lines get lit
Every plan starts with the primary roof edge, and works outward. Gables, dormers, porch roofs, posts and second story lines all get considered, though a good plan leaves some of them dark. Outline everything and you end up with a shape and no depth, which is the most common way a roofline plan goes wrong.Look along a completed run at eye level down the elevation, since a straight line over that span does not happen by accident.
Daylight is half the job
The hardware does not come down, which makes daylight appearance part of what you are buying. Matching the channel to the trim or fascia is not a small detail, it is the thing that keeps the house looking like a house in July. Mount it tight to the edge, match the color, and route the wire out of sight, and the daytime house is unchanged.
One line, several jobs
Once the run is in, it is a phone app and a color. Warm white on a normal night. Red and green in December. Orange in October. School colors on a Friday. The setting that gets the most hours is almost always the plain one, which surprises people who bought it for the holidays.
