Power is where outdoor events go wrong
Indoor events have power everywhere. A back yard, an outdoor venue usually has power in the wrong place. Where the power comes from, how far it has to travel, and how the cable is managed are questions worth settling early. An outdoor date carries weather risk. It is worth asking what happens if the forecast turns, even though nobody enjoys it. Having an answer in advance means the day is manageable either way.

The venue gets a vote
Venues have rules, and finding them out late is expensive. Access windows, load in times, attachment restrictions, and the strike deadline are all set by the venue, not by you. Introduce them before the week of. It is free and it prevents the most.
Scale
Planning an event, the temptation is to over specify. Dark surroundings lower the threshold, so what looks sparse on a plan often looks generous on the night. The spaces that look best in photographs are lit sparingly, with genuine dark between the bright points. A designer who says the plan is already enough is usually right.
